Cleveland Cyclewerks Heist Bobber

Cleveland Cyclewerks Heist Bobber

heistTha Heist is a head-turning throwback to the hardtails of the 1940s, a motorbike that connects you to the road and will draw admiring eyes at every pass and stop. Designed and built by hand using the highest quality materials, tha Heist will be your loyal companion on the road.
Success is in the details. Details such as braided stainless steel brake lines. Frames painted in clean rooms giving a bullet proof finish. Dual piston calipers. Oversized rotors. DOT approved tires. 1020 extruded tubing. You’ll love the beautiful high gloss paint and smooth finish.

Features

  • The 250cc engine is a custom “CG” series engine manufactured by LIFAN. It has redesigned intake and exhaust tracks, and counterbalanced internals accompanied by a performance enhancing cam curve.
  • The brake lines are bonded braided stainless steel. Controls are high quality, durable, and they look great too. They integrate internal sealed bearings to provide smooth actuation and eliminate vibration.
  • The brake rotors are 290mm in the front and 240mm in the back. Stopping power is provided by dual piston calipers, which provide better feel and actuation.
  • The wheels use 4mm spokes for a custom look and minimized flexibility, leading to increased traction. The front wheel is 21” and rear wheel is 18”. While the industry standard is 42 and 38 spokes per wheel, our wheels are constructed with 72 spokes on the rear wheel and 62 on the front.
  • The front end was designed with more “trail” to enhance stability at higher speeds. This addresses high speed “float” often experienced with lightweight bikes.
  • Tha Heist is built with 1020 DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel) extruded tubing to enhance strength and durability. 1020 DOM is used by custom builders of large bikes. Most production motorcycle frames are built with ERT tubing which is less expensive and less rigid.
  • The fuel tank and fender are fabricated from heavy gauge steel for durability. This steel is heavier than almost any other OEM bike on the market.
  • Small details are revealed in the hand stitched speed stitching on the seat cover.
  • Modern production management techniques are revered at the CCW factory. We receive real time feedback from riders and mechanics and integrate their feedback on the production line. We have test bikes running constantly with hundreds of thousands of miles on the odometer.

ENGINE: The engine is a unique design by one of the world’s largest engine manufacturers, LIFAN. The company was originated by Honda as a supplier of engines and engine parts, building many complete series under license.

The 250cc engine in the HEIST is not an “off the shelf” model. Based ont he “CG” series layout this version is counter balaced and it has redesigned intake and exhaust tracts specifically engineered to easily meet strict EPA/CARB and EEC standards. The counter balanced internals are accompanied by a performance enhancing cam curve and closely machined tolerances.

The criteria of simplicity, weight, longevity, reliability, owner oriented maintenance, and cost called for a conventional overhead valve configuration and actuation. The ignition is the reliable and proven CDI.

MECHANICAL DETAILS: Brake lines are braided stainless steel and bonded for superior function and longevity. Controls are of high quality, selected for durability and appearance. Forward controls are designed for elegant appearance, and they integrate internal sealed bearings to provide a smooth actuation and eliminate annoying vibration.

RUNNING GEAR: Dual piston calipers are used on front and rear brake assemblies for better feel and actuation. A 290mm front rotor and 240 rear rotor are used.

Wheels are 21″ front and a 18″ rear. 4mm spoke thickness achieves both a custom look and minimizes flexibility thereby enhancing transfer of load to traction. Wheels are constructed using 72 spokes on the rear and 62 on the front.

HANDLING: The front end was purposefully designed with more “trail” to enhance stability at higher speeds. The addresses thigh speed “float” often experienced with lightweight bikes. A heavier feel in steering is experienced below 5mph, however, above 5mph steering is neutral and accomplished with ease.

COSMETICS: Small details are revealed in the hand stitched speed stitching on the seat cover. Tha Heist features a three position seat and seat shocks with tunable pre-load. Traditional seat springs are standard. An aftermarket air-suspension for the seat is available to take the “hard” out of the term “hard tail”.

The paint and painting process are painstakingly attended to for high gloss and smooth finish.

ENGINEERING AND QUALITY CONTROL: Modern production management techniques are revered and followed at the CCW factory. Over 18 months of development time were invested to assure a solid and quality built machine. The factor receives real time feed back from mechanics and riders through their dealers at Pit Motors Ltd. CCW has test bikes running constantly with over 160,000 kilometers on them thus far.

Toby’s Virago 250 Bobber hits the streets!

Toby’s Virago 250 Bobber hits the streets!

The Virago’s have been with us since before we knew we wanted a copy of a Harley. I remember when the first XV750 came out around 1984 and we all hageman XV750thought our dreams had come true… Turned out those dreams became a bit of a nightmare before too long. People running for cover and mothers flinging themselves over their children every time the owner of a gen 1 virago 750 hit the starter button. Thankfully by the time the Gen 2 motor came out it was rectified and now the early ones have become popular with the custom Cafe Racer guys thanks to builders like Hageman etc.

The 920 and the 1000cc never made the huge splash as expected but then came the 1100 and everything was as it was supposed to be again. A few small alterations and once again the Japanese showed they really could make a reliable cruiser like no one else. I remember owning the very last of the 1100’s. I got it near new in 99 and it was called the Special. It WAS ‘special’ too with it’s spoked wheels and xv1100 specialheadlight visor (ok so I’m not so sure about the headlight visor). It also had shotgun pipes which really made it sound exactly the same.

It was a fraction of the cost of the Fatboy I had though. Also the fact it lent into corners when asked and it had more effective brakes, I found myself riding it more than the Harley. The stock handlebars didn’t last long I must admit. There were also the guys putting single carbs on theirs although to me they seemed like the lunatic fringe (if it aint broke, don’t fix it). By 99 Yamaha decided bigger was better and out rolled the Star range with their wide tanks and heavy low feel. Apparently high and thin was no longer the rage and so it stayed until recently.

xv250

This brings us to the baby in the Yamaha Virago range. The 250. Possibly one of the most popular 250’s behind the Honda CB250 and a hit with young and old alike. Sure they didn’t sound great and they still had that awful ‘tuck your elbows in and beg’ position but they were a V twin, cheap, air cooled and parts were readily available.

Here at Mostyn we’ve done a few over the years but Toby’s XV250 was probably the sorest and saddest looking beast we’ve had as a donor XV. We had the Bobber kit though and Toby’s admission that he just wanted it back on the road so we got cracking.

As you can see the rear fender and tank got replaced. The whole motor needed cosmetic work so was completed in a wrinkle/gloss black paint scheme which followed through to the rest of the bike. The bobber seat and 3 inch hairsprings made sure there was no mistaking this bike for a dual seat commuter. The sissy bar in chrome helped give the bike a touch of 60’s chopper.

There was still too much chrome on the bike so the pipes got the Black ceramic coating and then wrapped with some of our Inferno wrap. Finally the rear end was dropped 2 inches with our Nitroheads shocks and the indicators changed over to something a bit more discreet.

The bike has a much different feel now. Getting up to highway speeds isn’t noticeably different but with the rear sprocket dropped  by 4 teeth there is a definite difference in highway revs. The back end also feels a lot stiffer now. Not as much as a rigid but definitely not as plush as the Virago in standard form.

The bike now turns heads wherever it rolls and we can’t wait to see it riding around Brisbane streets more. Well done Toby!

Had this cool looking CB750 come into the workshop. Lots of Mostyn products including grips, headlight, taillight,  indicators and seat. The exhaust was changed from standard to this great sounding 4 into 2 system. The gauge is the new Daytona unit that looks the part on this cafe/fighter. IMG_4033 IMG_4035 IMG_4034

SR400 Tracker out the door

SR400 Tracker

We got a nice little SR400 in that was a bit to Cafe for the current owner. Luckily a lot of the hard work was done. The airbox was removed and a nice little Peyton Place exhaust already on the bike.

You know we aren’t going to say anything bad about the Nitroheads flat seat find them here! With a couple of choice little items like the handlebars, grips, gauges and front guard (not pictured) the bike really handled differently and looked a lot better.

Of course, we had to take it for a ride and it’s not often a 400 brings a smile to the face, like this one did. Well done to the new owner and his vision.

Raf, can we have one as a workshop bike? Please?

SR500 Gets a Face Lift

SR500 Gets a Face Lift

We had a customers bike in with a few mechanical issues. After a bit of discussion the owner Matty had a bunch of ideas that he had been putting off. Until now that is.

Everything that even resembled chrome had to be powdercoated black. The forks, levers and shocks all got the treatment. Next the tank got a gloss black paint job. While that was happening the motor came out and it too got a heat proof coat of Satin Black. Then we put on the new seat and grips both in tan colour. Repositioning of the taillight and new indicators is yet to happen along with making the electronics tray a little more discreet. With that much black going on we wanted to break it up a little so the front end got chrome gauges and stainless steel light brackets that work with the chrome fork legs.

What we have here now is a low sleek, mountain machine that will disappear into the darkness ready to pounce again at a moments notice.

Happy to say that we have our own daily run-about now. With all the other bikes on the go we haven’t been able to spend any time on a bike for ourselves. Here is the new shop bike. Engine stripped and rebuilt. Frame powdercoated. Electrics all sorted. Love these bikes and am actually looking forward to doing the daily errands now:)

Today we sold another GB400. The proud owners name is Andrew and great to see he’s already joining Brisbane Cafe Racers. He has lots of plans for the bike and I suspect this’ll be one of the cleanest bikes around by the time he’s finished.

If anyone else is looking for an affordable GB, be it GB250, GB400 or GB500 we can help you. Plenty of stock and all with low kilometres.
